Ted Hake is recognized as the founding father of America's
collectibles industry. A collector from age seven,
beginning with coins and fossils, Hake's first presidential
campaign item sales lists were issued from New York City while
he was employed by
General Electric at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. In the Fall
of 1965, he entered New York University's graduate film program and
then in January, 1967 transferred to the Annenberg School for
Communication at University of Pennsylvania, receiving his master's
degree in 1968. While in Philadelphia, he founded Hake's Americana
& Collectibles in 1967, the first auction house to specialize in
20th century American popular culture. Over the years, Hake has
shared his expertise by writing 18 reference/price guides covering
such subjects as
presidential campaign artifacts, pinback buttons and vintage
collectibles in the areas of advertising, comic characters, cowboy
characters and television. His lifelong interest in Disneyana
culminated in the publication of the Official Price Guide To Disney
Collectibles, a comprehensive companion (10,000 color photos) to his
long-established price guide on
character and personality collectibles now titled Official Price
Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia - 150 Years Of Character Toys &
Collectibles (16,000 photos).
He is a frequent guest on radio, appeared as an appraiser on the
first two seasons of the PBS series
The Antiques Road Show and is a featured expert on the History
Channel's 2003 program History of
Toys. In March, 2004, Hake sold his business which is now a
division of Geppi's Entertainment
Publications & Auctions and he continues as Chief Operating
Officer. |
